ChatGPT or Claude, which one is better?

Neither, universally. In our view, the practical difference is in the tools each subscription includes: on ChatGPT, Codex (OpenAI's coding agent) is available in limited form even on the Free plan, while on Claude, Claude Code comes only with the paid plans. The right pick depends on what you do with it, not on a general ranking.

How much does Claude cost compared to ChatGPT?

Both have a free plan. The cheapest paid ChatGPT plan is Go, at 8 USD/month; on Claude it is Pro, at 20 USD/month (17 USD/month billed annually). ChatGPT Plus also costs 20 USD/month. Can I use Claude for free?

Yes, Claude has a Free plan, but without Claude Code. ChatGPT also has a Free plan, with unlimited text chats on GPT-5.6 Luna and limited access to images, voice and Codex.

What is Claude Code, and does ChatGPT have an equivalent?

Claude Code is Anthropic's tool for writing and editing code straight from the terminal, an IDE, or the browser, included in every paid Claude plan. The closest OpenAI tool is Codex, the coding agent included in ChatGPT: limited on Free, expanded on Plus. More on Claude Code in the dedicated guide.

Can I use both ChatGPT and Claude at the same time?

Yes. Nothing forces you to pick just one: you can have an account on both and choose the tool by task.
